History of Art
For this exhibition, UBS selects 153 works and have grouped them into seven broadlydefined movements or periods, beginning with late 1950s proto-Pop and 1960s Pop, moving to Minimalism, to works engaged with notions of process from the 1970s, to the Neo-Expressionist and figurative painting and sculpture of the 1980s. The1990s art scene in the West was dominated on the one hand by photography, especially from Germany, and on the other by the Young British Artists – or YBAs – while the 21st Century is characterized by a diverse and globalized group of artists whose works fall outside any restricting category.
“Though there are not the most famous artworks in the exhibition,” Mr. Fan Dian, Director of the National Art Museum of China, said and went on to mention that “The UBS Art Collection offers Chinese audience the opportunity to experience the history of art through works from all over the world. And also, it is more like an education programme, from which the trend of art are clearly showed”.
History of UBS Collection
It has been 40 years since UBS began its collection in 1970. The core collection was from Painewebber, who assembled one of the most significant contemporary art collections in the U.S. over a period of 30 years. Afterwards, it was future enhanced and complemented by selected pieces. Since 2004 the collection has continued to grow and currently comprises over 1'000 paintings, photographs, drawings, sculptures and video art by some of the world's major artists from 1950 onwards. And every year, UBS cooperates with the world’s leading museums and corporations and sponsors a broad range of exhibitions.
Now UBS brought its art to china. After the recent successful exhibition held in Shanghai in June/July, it will presents a different and much broader selection of works in Beijing, and then Guangzhou will be the last stop for the historical show. “We do not only concentrate on our business developments, but also contributes to the social commitment.” David Li, the Country Head and Chairman of UBS China fell honor about the company’s culture when talk about UBS collection: “I firmly believe that ‘Moving Horizons’ will provide Chinese audiences with a unique UBS art feast as well as an understanding of our corporation.
