The 2008 Beijing 798 Art Festival began Sept. 28th and will run up until October 18th.

The festival organizers invited the famous art critic, Wang Lin to serve as the general curator and will showcase the latest Chinese contemporary art via exhibitions and forums, with and around the wider art community,

One of the events is the "Art is not invariable" activity. Here more than 40 artists, like Kong Yongqian, JinFeng, Cang Xin, He Chengyao, Zhang Xiaotao, Yu Ji, Wei Jiqing, Gu Xiong, and many more other notables will discuss the issues of contemporary art.

As for other art form the video show "My video camera never lies – The retrospect of Chinese independent movie in 1990s". This will present the reaction to Chinese contemporary reality.

The other theme is "Opening and closing of oneself – Contemporary college students video works show ", revealing a youthful creativity and self-sense in video creating.

Moreover, a forum with the theme of "Art and Capital" will be held that discusses the relationship between capital and art market and Chinese cultural context after the capital entered Chinese contemporary market.

798 Art Zone or Dashanzi Art District, is in the Chaoyang District of Beijing . Set among 50-year old decommissioned military factory buildings it is often compared to New York's Greenwich Village or SoHo.
