Landscapes of Memory - Serene Canal Towns, Russian Winters

Landscapes Recollected" features 12 well-known local artists' memories of both familiar and fresh landscapes at the Original Song Gallery.
Landscapes are not necessarily easy subjects, as they reveal an artist's vision, message and technique, and his or her feelings at the time he or she experienced the landscape.
Wang Jieyin uses bold brushstrokes to create a street scene of Changshu in neighboring Jiangsu Province from memory. Yin Xiong creates an old stone-gated house.
"The landscapes are of different styles," says gallery owner Xu Lei. "Some are quite realistic, and some are a bit expressionistic and abstract. But each painting is stamped vividly with the artist's own trait."
Landscapes also include tranquil romantic scenes in Greece, the freezing winter in Russia and canal towns in China. Artists present their unforgettable moments.
"Changshu is not a tourist city familiar to many people," says Wang. "But for some reason, I was very impressed by the air wafting over the city, something distant and nostalgia. I even didn't draw sketches, I just created faithfully what was in my mind."
