Damien Hirst has re-taken the top spot in the list of 100 most powerful people in the art world, according to the ArtReview Power 100.

Hirst was first in the rankings in 2005, but dropped to 11th place the following year and was sixth in 2007. His record-breaking £111 million auction at Sotheby's last month has catapulted the 43-year-old back to the top of the annual list.

Roman Abramovich, who is said to have been the mystery buyer behind two record-breaking purchases at auction this year, makes his debut at number 54 in the list, along with Russian girlfriend and gallery founder Daria Zhukova.

Billionaire Russian collector Abramovich is thought to have bought a Francis Bacon triptych, which at £44 million became the most expensive post-war work ever sold, and Lucian Freud portrait Benefits Supervisor Sleeping, this year.

The Freud work, sold for £17.2 million in May, set the world record for the highest price paid in an auction for a work of art by a living artist.

For the first time, London based graffiti artist Banksy has landed a spot in this year's ArtReview Power 100. The street artist, said to have been unmasked as a former public schoolboy in July despite his attempt to remain anonymous, makes his debut at 63 in the list.

ArtReview magazine said the ranking came after Banksy's popularity and rising presence in the art world inspired Tate to stage its first street art show this summer. Freud is in the annual list for the first time this year - ranked at 66.

Hirst is at the top of the list with Science, the company behind his artistic production, marketing and publicity.

The seventh annual ranking appears in the November issue of contemporary art magazine ArtReview.
