There's a retrospective showing at the Hubei Gallery of Fine Arts dedicated to one of the province's leading painters - Zhou Shaohua.

The exhibition,in the central Chinese province opened last Wednesday. It brings together over 160 paintings from the Zhou Shaohua's thirty-year career. The works present the artists' restless, artistic exploration throughout his life. Most of his works were inspired by the Yellow River, the Yangtze River and the Sea.

Throughout his career Zhou has insisted on the Chinese tradition of painting, stemming the tide of western influences.
