Leading International Contemporary Art Fair for Photo-Based Art and Other Media Returns to Miami

Photo MIAMI, the leading international contemporary art fair for photo-based art, video and new media returns to the Wynwood Art District in Miami, Florida, home of the 3rd annual photo MIAMI contemporary art fair. photo MIAMI 2008 will showcase works by over 200 contemporary artists at the 40,000 sq. ft. marquee structure located at NW 31st Street and North Miami Avenue, steps away from the Rubell Family Collection and the developing Midtown Miami district. Over 60 new and established galleries will present highly anticipated works- many that will be seen in the U.S. for the first time. photo MIAMI 2008 will also have a dedicated Solo Projects section.

“The list of participating galleries and solo projects featured at photo MIAMI 2008 strengthens photo MIAMI’s position as a destination for collectors to discover new talents and emerging trends. photo MIAMI is gaining momentum as one of the most sought after platforms for 21st Century artists and their work,” said Tim Fleming, Director, photo MIAMI. “Our commitment to investing in cultural expression and to making some of the most cutting-edge art accessible to collectors and to the community is reflected in our selection committee’s choices for galleries and solo projects invited to participate in this years’ fair,” he continued.

During the five-day run at photo MIAMI 2008, more than 15,000 art enthusiasts are expected to visit the international contemporary art fair. photo MIAMI 2008 offers its visitors the most exclusive and eclectic photographic and new media art works from all over the world. The photo MIAMI 2008 selection committee has identified galleries from Argentina, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, The Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, the U.K. and the United States to participate at this year’s fair. The dedicated Solo Project section is organized by independent curator and author Paco Barragán, who serves as the head of the photo MIAMI selection committee. Highlights include multimedia media installations by artist Carlos Aires (Galeria Sandunga) and artist Sabine Dehnel (MasArt Gallery).

Galleries represented at photo MIAMI 2008 include: Pierre-François Ouellette art contemporain, (Montreal) showcasing four contemporary Canadian artists, including Taiwan born Chih-Chien Wang, Galerie Kashya Hildebrand (Zurich) presenting the US premier of “Borderland” the new series by American photographer Jeffrey Aaronson, Craig Scott Gallery (Toronto), showcasing the U.S premiere of brand new works from Chinese artist Maleonn (Ma Liang); Crown Gallery, (Brussels) presenting Paul Graham’s new series “A Shimmer of Possibility” and U.S. based gallery Lisa Sette Gallery (Scottsdale), presenting new photographs by Julianne Swartz.

Also on-site will be an outdoor lounge, bar, and café for visitors to enjoy. Programs that will cultivate direct access to leading icons from the art world are in development.

Photo MIAMI is organized by artfairs, inc., producers of the globally acclaimed photography and contemporary art fairs including photo LA and ART LA. photo MIAMI takes place during Art Basel Miami Beach and is in close proximity to Art Asia, Art Miami and Scope.
