Over thousands of years, traditional Chinese painting has become the representative standard for oriental art history and the symbol of Chinese art. Since the late 20th Century, a revolution in ink and brush painting has taken place around the country.

Traditional Chinese painting has taken on a new look, with new concepts and techniques. On Tuesday, an exhibition of contemporary Chinese painting opened in Beijing's CPPCC Auditorium. The theme of the exhibit is Jiangxi, a province in east China.

The Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, or CPPCC, Jia Qinglin attended the opening ceremony and stayed to enjoy the exhibition.

China's top political advisory body has been holding the "Contemporary Chinese Painting Series Exhibition" since 2002. This is the 14th of the series, bringing together the top 100 works by 10 Jiangxi based new and veteran artists.

Those masterpieces depict the imposing landscape of the east Chinese province, as well as its history and culture. Local customs and qualities also are reflected in the paintings.

The vice chairman of the CPPCC, Zheng Wantong addressed the opening ceremony. He said culture has become the prominent source of a nation's coherence and innovation. He called it an integrative element encouraging healthy competition between elements of Society. He also called for continued promotion of traditional culture throughout China as a means to enhance national cohesion and national prosperity.

Other senior officials of the CPPCC and celebrated Chinese artists also made presentations at the ceremony.
