London-based Russians to Get Summer Art Fair

Wealthy London-based Russians are to get their own art fair this summer.
Peter London, an art dealer, is to put on the event to meet the growing demand for Russian art in the capital.
His idea is to put on a fair twice a year to coincide with sales of Russian art at auction houses including Sotheby's and Christie's.
It will concentrate on art in the £2,000 to £40,000, with works by painters including Wassily Kandinsky, Kazimir Malevich and Natalia Goncharova, as well as pieces of imperial Russian silver, religious icons, and items by Fabergé.
Mr London, who is putting on the event with organiser Robert Bailey, said: "Contemporary art is pretty well covered but there was nothing for Russian art apart from the regular auctions. We also want it to be a social occasion because there are not a huge number of social events for Russians in London."
Before Christmas he told the Antiques Trade Gazette: "There are now almost 400,000 Russians living in London, including countless millionaires. Yet until now there has not been a dedicated event to cater for the renowned eclectic taste of the Russian art collector."
The first fair will take place in the ballroom of the Jumeirah Carlton Tower hotel in Knightsbridge from June 6 to 9.
