Picasso’s 《Profil au Fond Noir》
An etching by Picasso and prints by Matisse and Braque were among 30 works stolen from a Berlin gallery during the New Year’s holiday, The Associated Press reported. The artworks, which included Picasso’s “Profil au Fond Noir,” from 1947; Matisse’s “Nude in a Rocking Chair,” from 1913; and Braque’s “Boupeut,” from 1962, were stolen from the Fasanengalerie, a private gallery, sometime between Wednesday afternoon and lunchtime Thursday, a police spokeswoman told The A.P. The police said that the theft was discovered on New Year’s Day, and that it was probably committed by two or more people, given the weight and number of pieces that were stolen. The total value of the works was estimated at $250,000.
