Singapore Unveils Pavilion Design for World Expo Shanghai 2010

Singapore Wednesday unveiled the theme and design of the Singapore pavilion for World Expo Shanghai 2010.

According to a statement released by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), the theme of the pavilion, Urban Symphony, pays tribute to Singapore symbolizing its harmony of culture, progress and sustainability. The 3,000 square-meter Singapore pavilion is designed to demonstrate the viability and benefits of urban planning in building sustainable cities.

The design of the Singapore pavilion resembles a musical box looking from afar, and it incorporates elements such as water fountains, an audio and video interplay, and a roof-top garden landscaped with tropical flowers.

"Here visitors will get a first-hand feel of Singapore as a garden city," the STB said in the statement.

"Cities of tomorrow must understand nature's ways of building structures and communities, and change the mind-set of urban dwellers from exploiting the environment to being more in tune with nature," said Ken Low, assistant chief executive of the marketing group of the STB.

"We hope to help translate Singapore's eclectic urban tempo into an environmentally-friendly message to share with the world based on its compilation of cultural influences, thriving within a well-orchestrated environment," he added.

World Expo is a 150-year-old global and non-commercial exposition aimed at developing world economy, culture, science and technology, promoting the exchange of ideas and strengthening international relations. Themed "Better City, Better Life", World Expo Shanghai 2010 will center on innovation and interaction, exploring the full potential of urban life in the 21st century.
