On display are 17 pieces spanning from the 15th century's Ming Dynasty to the 20th century. They reveal the distinctive style favored by artists in each era, as well as diversity in format, artistic trends, techniques and subject matters.
Capturing the bulk of attention at the show is "Emperor Qianlong's Southern Inspection Tour" by Xu Yang of the Qing dynasty. The 15-meter long, hand-painted scroll details with impeccable craftsmanship the Qianlong Emperor's very first inspection tour to southern China in 1751.
De. Zeng Jiabao, Exhibit Organizer, said, "Many westerners share the thought that Chinese paintings all look the same. Now they have an opportunity to take a look here at ancient Chinese paintings with a variety of themes and employing different techniques. Many have told me the show seems so fresh to them. There have also been a number of Chinese visitors over the past month, and they have welcomed and recognized the show as well."
The exhibition is the largest of its kind ever held in Ontario, Canada. It will remain at the Royal Ontario Museum for six months.
