2009-04-15 13:46:19 未知

From the New Year Picture, to the elaborately hand-made embroidery, an exhibition boasting a wide range of folk art pieces is now on display at the National Art Museum of China. To the elation of culture vultures, some of the items are very rare and is their first time to be shown in public.

Strolling around the exhibition hall, visitors are surrounded by gaily-colored pieces that are saturated with traditional Chinese flavors. All the exhibits are closely associated with festive celebrations and cultures, recalling visitors' memories of the past.

Exhibition attendee said, “Generation used to hang a Year Picture to celebrate the New Year. But unfortunately, Year Pictures are long gone and hard to find nowadays."

All the 150 pieces on display are from the collection of 86-year old folk artist Wang Shucun. Thanks to Wang, who donated his entire personal collection to the museum, the public has the rare opportunity to enjoy the show and get a closer look at these pieces.

Ma Liming, research of National Art Museum of China said, "Some of the Door Gods on the Year Pictures are from the Ming Dynasty. And some of the embroidery was made by Sichuan people during the Qing Dynasty. These are really rare today."

Experts say all the exhibits are of great artistic and historical value. The exhibition runs until April 14th.
