Claude Monet, "Reflections of Clouds on the Water-Lily Pond"
Through a collaboration with the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the High Museum of Art in Atlanta will show several of Claude Monet's water lily paintings this summer, reports the Associated Press and the New York Times.
High director Michael E. Shapiro announced today that the exhibition “Monet Water Lillies,” featuring four of the artist's paintings, will open June 6. The highlight of the show will be the 42-foot-wide triptych Reflections of Clouds on the Water-Lily Pond, on loan from MoMA. The other works on display will be Water Lilies, a painting of the Japanese-style pond in Monet's garden in Giverny, France; The Japanese Footbridge, which shows the bridge over the pond; and Agapanthus, which depicts the plants surrounding the pond. The exhibition showcases Monet's devotion to his garden and the changes in his technique toward the end of his life.
The exhibition marks the start of a four-year collaboration between the two museums. This is the second time that the organizations have worked together; the first was from 1997 to 2000, when they mounted a series of exhibits in Atlanta.
