Christie’s "Jewels: The New York Sale" on April 22 earned a total of $19,293,675 against a presale estimate of $15–20 million, for sold rates of 85 percent by value and 84 percent by lot.
The top earner among the more than 200 lots on offer was a pear-shaped D, Internally Flawless type IIa diamond of 30.02cts, which sold for $4,002,500 (unpublished estimate upon request), or $133,000 per carat.
“With more than $130,000 per carat achieved for a perfect diamond of 30.02cts, the market for colorless diamonds remains absolutely firm and very much in line with prices realized for similar stones this time last year,” said Rahul Kadakia, Christie’s head of jewelry.
