Sotheby's Announces Two-Day Exhibit of Ukrainian Art In Kiev

Sotheby's announced that on Wednesday, May 20th and Thursday, May 21st, 2009 it will stage a two-day exhibition in Kiev, in association with Ukrainian House, to showcase 19 works from its first Contemporary Art sale ever to include a major offering of Ukrainian Art. The exhibition at Ukrainian House (2 Kreschatuk Street, 01001, Kyiv, Ukraine) will present highlights by some of Ukraine’s most important contemporary artists from the London Contemporary Art: Russian and Ukrainian auction on Tuesday, June 9, 2009.
The works, which range in estimate from £2,000-3,000 up to £20,000-25,000, have been sourced from Ukrainian galleries, private collections and also directly from the artists’ studios.
Highlights in the Exhibition:
• Arsen Savadov’s (b. 1962) Underground 2000, c-type colour print mounted on aluminium , frontmounted on plexiglass and Parliament lights, c-type colour print mounted on aluminium (each estimated at £8,000-10,000)
• Oleg Tistol’s (b. 1960) Yalta-07, oil on canvas, signed and dated 08 (Estimate: £10,000-15,000)
• Alexander Roitburd’s (b. 1961) Geishas, oil on canvas, signed and dated 2005 (Estimate: £10,000-15,000)
• Alexander Gnilitsky’s (b. 1961) Rain, oil on canvas, signed and dated 2008 (Estimate: £10,000-15,000)
• Vassily Tsagolov’s (b. 1957) Bunny (from the Ukrainian X-Files Series), oil on canvas, signed and dated 2002 (Estimate: £20,000-25,000)
A State enterprise “Centre of Cultural and Business Cooperation “Ukrainian House” is one of biggest exhibition centres of Ukraine, which constantly conducts different art events. The large exhibition areas of the Ukrainian House meet all the requirements for holding exhibitions. In particular, the Ukrainian House conducts the annual art fairs - “ART-Kyiv” and “Great Sculpture Exhibition” that represent the best of contemporary art. In March 2008 the Ukrainian house exhibited the works of Auguste Rodin and in the autumn of 2008 held an unprecedented exhibition of works by representatives of the Paris school which included the works of world-class artists as Picasso, Modigliani, Chagall, and Archipenko.
