After four and a half years' of construction, the new Sichuan Museum opened its doors to visitors on Saturday. 260-thousand items are on display, with nearly two-thousand items listed first class relics of the country, or "national treasures".
Highlights of the new museum include Buddhist sculptures from Sichuan's Wanfo temple. They are the first batch of stone Buddhist sculptures created in China around the fifth century AD. Also on display are four hundred works by painter Zhang Daqian, with half of them being replicas of the Dunhuang Murals. The new Sichuan museum is open to the public for free.
