Jiang Miao Solo Exhibition was presented at Triumph Art Space at on May 16, 2009. A lot of guests, including many famous artists and critics, came to the opening ceremony, and reacted well to Jiang Miao’s works.
From the black and white tone and the exquisite cutting marks of the Spiritual Breath, it is easy for us to see that Jiang Miao has solid painting skills. She studied at the Printmaking Department in the Central Academy of Fine Arts, the first printmaking department in China, which was established in 1954 staffed with an excellent faculty. Standing in front of the wood engravings of Jiang Miao, you will be deeply impressed by her sharp - eyed appreciation for the surrounding objects. In terms of artistic language practice, Jiang Miao develops a sense of deviation from figurative forms, organically integrating the concrete with the abstract. The striking contrast between figures and the entire space embodies the enduring spirit. Jiang Mao prefers this black - and - white woodcut method because of her observation of surrounding people and objects, her deep understanding of the complex and difficult communication between self and others, and the use of the cutting lines to match the psychological movement.
In the world of wood engraving and printing ink, Jiang Miao carves the surrounding objects with the fictitious people and symbols using her carving knives. She adopts black and white to filter and restore the complicated and colorful reality, just like opening her eyes widely in the darkness to observe every thing, including each of us.
The exhibition will last from May 16, 2009 to June 6, 2009.
