China is the motherland of ceramics and Foshan is historically known as the "Capital of Ceramics in South China". In the long history of the Lingnan culture, the Foshan people have demonstrated that they are the capital of the ceramic civilization with more than 5,000 years of ceramic-making resplendence, and with Foshan accordingly becoming an historical and cultural city of world attention. As time goes by, Foshan is stepping into the international cultural stage of the 21st century with its unique ceramic culture and is forming a platform for China's brisk entry into international ceramic art exchange circles. Apparently, the ceramic culture concept has become a typical measure of the local culture of Foshan.
Guangzhou and Foshan are the cradles of the Lingnan Culture. The two cities are separated from each only by a narrow strip of water. They are connected geographically and culturally related with a long history of economic, social and as a platform for cultural exchanges has been accepted over time. "Guangzhou-Foshan, as a City" and the "Guangzhou-Foshan Integration" has been upgraded to the strategic level of national historic development. The current ceramics exhibition will show about 300 works by 103 artisans. It aims to recall the famous ceramicists of the old generation, promote the young and middle-aged ceramists of the new generation, and show the new dynamics of the development of ceramics in Guangzhou and Foshan so as to make the ceramic art of the two cities display the glory of our times in continuing, developing, innovating and interpreting traditional ceramic arts.
