A stone Buddha grotto with a history of over 600 years has been found in Kwaksan County in North Phyongan Province of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said on Monday.
The first stone-cave temple ever found in the DPRK was believed to be built in a natural cave in the period from the end of Koryo Dynasty (935-1392) to the beginning of Ri Dynasty (1392-1905), the KCNA said.
Seven Buddha images, with the highest one being nine meters, were carved in the cave, showing "extraordinary artistic talent of the Korean ancestors," the KCNA said.
