The Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA) announced today the appointment of S. Alice Mong as Director in conjunction with its opening today to launch the 2009 summer program in its new 14,000 square foot space designed by the renowned artist/designer Maya Lin.

Ms. Mong will assume the Director position on July 15, 2009. She served previously as the Executive Director of the Committee of 100, a national non-partisan, non-profit membership organization comprised of prominent Chinese Americans leaders. Under Ms. Mong's leadership at the Committee of 100, the organization increased its presence in Greater China, significantly expanded its influence on U.S.-China relations and advanced the full participation of Chinese Americans in all areas of life.

"Alice brings to MOCA, her national and international experience, vision, influence, and understanding of the Chinese and Chinese American community. As MOCA emerges as a national institution with a stunning new home to facilitate a deeper and broader dialogue about Chinese American history, identity, and culture, Alice will be a tremendous asset to MOCA's growth and development," said Jonathan Ligh, M.D., Chair of MOCA's Board of Trustees.

He added, "Earlier this year, Charles Lai who co-founded MOCA, announced his plan to step down as Executive Director. Much of the institution's success is due to Charles Lai's leadership and perseverance. The Board salutes Charlie for his three decades of service, vision, skills and commitment. He will remain an active member of the MOCA family as he has always been."
