Agnes Gund has been appointed chair of the board of directors at P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, succeeding Peter Norton, who served in that capacity since 2003. As board chair, Gund will continue to strengthen and expand P.S.1’s board, and will work closely with the management team of P.S.1, which became an affiliate of the Museum of Modern Art in 2000. Gund, who is also president emerita of MoMA and chair of its International Council, is a longtime board member who has been involved with P.S.1 since the early 1980s.
A renowned philanthropist and collector of modern and contemporary art, Gund is also currently chair of the Mayor’s Cultural Affairs Advisory Commission of New York City, is founder and a Trustee of Studio in a School Association, and currently serves on the boards of Chess in the Schools, the Foundation for Contemporary Arts, the Foundation for Art and Preservation in Embassies, the Frick Collection, and Socrates Sculpture Park, among others.
Dana Farouki and Beth Swofford have recently joined P.S.1’s board of directors. Farouki is founding chair of the Student Body, P.S.1’s young affiliate group; a trustee of Creative Time; a founding member of the Executive Committee of Art Dubai; and works in a curatorial capacity for the Guggenheim Museum’s Abu Dhabi project. Swofford is a motion picture agent with Creative Artists Agency in LA, an art collector, a committee member of MoMA’s Department of Media and Performance Art, and a member of the board of trustees at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles.
