Bristol Paid Banksy £1 for Blockbuster Exhibit

Since it opened two months ago, Banksy’s biggest-ever U.K. exhibition has drawn more than 230,000 visitors, bringing huge financial rewards to the city and regularly putting its Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery in the news. The anonymous graffiti artist’s payment for the blockbuster show? A princely £1 ($1.66).
That’s one of the details contained in a contract between the artist and the Bristol City Council, which was released after a request under the Freedom of Information Act. Among other things, the document says the museum must destroy all closed-circuit TV footage that might have captured the elusive artist installing, viewing, or removing the exhibits 30 days after it was shot. Other details were blacked out by the City Council, but the precise cataloging of items in the free exhibit remains, including such works as Chicken Nuggets in a Birdcage and Two Kissing Hot Dogs.
