19th China Guardian Quarterly Auction lowered the curtain on Sept.13. The works of troika among Chinese modern and contemporary painting artists Zhang Daqian, Xu Beihong and Qi Baishi highlights the auction. What deserves to be mentioned is that, ‘Golden Cock Standing on the Stone’ by Xue Beihong fetched RMB2,466,000, 4 times more than the estimate and topped the modern and contemporary paintings.

‘Golden Cock Standing on the Stone’ was created in the spring festival of 1939. Xue Beihong donate this painting to his friends. The painting reflects lucky and auspicious atmosphere in the painting. After half a century, this painting debuts in China Guardian and stirs hot bidding on site and on phone. Final it was bid at RMB2,466,000.
