Versailles Palace has gathered up over 300 pieces of exceptional works related to Louis XIV from allover the world, devoting the first large-scale exhibition to its master founder, the curators announced on Monday.

From Oct. 20, 2009 to Feb. 7, 2010, painting, sculptures, ornaments and furniture, all about the Sun King or belongs to him, will be displayed in the palace, in southwest suburb of Paris.

With the theme of "Louis XIV, the Man and the King," the exhibition presents various kinds of portraits of Louis XIV by contemporary artists, and epitomizes the king's taste in art through his collections and designs, including some masterpieces that have never been presented in the country since the days of the ancient regime.

During the exhibition, there are special visiting days exclusively arranged for pupils and the disabilities.

Louis XIV's reign started from 1643 and ended to his death in 1715, during which the Sun King advanced a centralized state government and renovated the Versailles Palace to the most luxurious palace in Europe.

French media has put the exhibition under spotlights, hailing that it marks the recurrence of Louis XIV's glory to Versailles.
