The 4th China Asem Youth Artwork Creativity Exhibition officially opened in Nan-ning, capital of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Monday. This year's exhibition features 170 works that won awards in previous exhibitions.
Since its inauguration in 2006, the exhibition has opened a window of artistic exchanges for artists from China and the other Asem countries. The previous three exhibitions received close to eight-thousand exhibits from twenty countries and regions in a wide spectrum of media including oils, sculptures, Chinese paintings, and calligraphy. Over one-thousand pieces won awards in the first three exhibitions. And the current one is a collective showing by a selection of 170 award winners.
The exhibition has delighted an audience of varying backgrounds. This Vietnamese girl said she can't comprehend some of the exhibits, but she likes them anyway. And this Brunei visitor finds the sculptures very impressive.
Also showing at the exhibition is a fine collection of cultural relics from Indonesia. The Precious Cultural Relics of Indonesia feature bronze-ware, masks, accessories, sculptures, and puppets in nine different categories. The eighty-one exhibits aim to condense the history and culture of Indonesia. Some of the indigenous folk arts, including sword-making, weaving, and puppets are listed as World Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO.
Trigangga, Deputy Director of Indonesia National Museum, finds a similarity between the arts of Guangxi and Indonesia. He hopes that the exhibition can further facilitate the historical and artistic exchanges between China and Indonesia.
