Tibet Museum to hold New Year cultural activities

The Tibet Museum will hold cultural activities on New Year customs to greet the upcoming Tibetan New Year, which coincides with the Chinese Spring Festival falling on Feb. 14, 2010.
The museum in Lhasa, capital of Tibet, has received 110,000 tourists since it opened for free on July 1, 2009, according to Dadron, deputy curator of the museum.
The 53,959-sq-m museum, the first modern one in Tibet, displays nearly 1,000 cultural relics reflecting the course of of Tibet's history and its splendid ethnic culture. Typical exhibits include exquisite jadewares in the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and Qing Dynasty (1636-1911) and porcelains in the Ming and Qing dynasties.
"During the New Year holiday, we will prepare various kinds of conventional programs in every exhibition hall, such as lantern riddle games, competitive sports, and documentaries and films related to the New Year," she said.
Meanwhile, there will also be prize quizzes concerning the museum's exhibits and Tibet's history. Visitors will be able to enjoy many Tibetan delicacies during the activity.
