The 4th AAC award, the most influential participant of Chinese art, was successfully held in the art gallery of Central Academy of Fine Arts last Friday night. The AAC award, which has been called the “Oscar of Chinese art”, is annually organized by Artron Culture Development Company Limited and Artron Art Website. There were nearly a thousand people attended this art event, including many specialists and scholars of art, celebrities, medias and reporters.

11 grand awards were announced. They included: the best artist of calligraphy, Chinese painting, oil painting, sculpture and photography, multimedia; the best young artist; the best art exhibition; the best art publication; special contribution of art industry; lifetime achievement. Not only were the awards announced, but also the top 10 of most influential art event and the public-spirited artists list were declared.

The president of judge, Gao Ming-lu, who is a well-known critic and curator, analyses the phenomenon of Chinese contemporary art. He expressed confidence of potential of Chinese art according to the steady development of 2009, though encountered many challenges.

The best exhibition of the year was achieved by Central Academy of Fine Arts, Sketches for 60 years, which is the biggest exhibition of sketch since 1949. Xu Bing and three curators, Gao Tian-xiong, Jin Jun, Yin Shuang-xi, were on the stage together sharing this honor.

The winner of best calligraphy artist was Chen Zhen-lian. His solo calligraphy exhibition was successfully held in the National Art Museum of China in 2009. The best artist of Chinese painting was Zhou Shao-hua, who always insisted the concept of harmonizing the beauty of artwork and nature. Mr. Zhou was holding his exhibition in Taiwan, but he gave his thankful speech through a video. Sui Jian-guo is the best sculptor. His amazing artwork “the Tension of Movement” extended new ideas for sculpture. The award for photography section was achieved by Miao Xiao-chun. His striking artwork” Guide of Beijing”, which is called by the specialists as the modern version of “Qing Ming Shang He Tu”. The best artist of multimedia, the new award of this year, was won by Qiu Zhi-jie. His representative artwork was “Break the ice: the plan of Nanjing changjiang Bridge, part 3”.

At the end of the AAC award, two special prizes for 2009 Art China was announced. China Minsheng Bank won the award of special contribution, because of its lavish subscription to art industry in recent years. Wu Guan-zhong, master of combining western oil painting style into Chinese art and one has always been diligent in his art career, won one of the biggest award—lifetime achievement.

One of the most special parts of the AAC is the public-spirited artists list, which was declared for the first time. It took Artron Art Website over a half year to organize and research with magazine Forbes. It was an integrated summary of the donation by Chinese artists since 1949, which had a magnificently important meaning as the related law had not been published yet.
