Capital Museum of China brings the works of Hong Kong jewellery designer Wallace Chan to Beijing with a sculpture jewellery exhibit.
The exhibition, From Heaven Brought the Craftsmanship of a Soul, displays 197 major works of the world-class jewellery designer, dividing them into two categories: sculpture (created with jewellery) and jewellery (the wearable kind).

Through his sculptures, Chan, whose Mandarin name is Chen Shiying, presents a unique kind of jewellery art that merges sculpture art with jewellery design. He goes beyond traditional jewellery design techniques and applies modern optics, metallurgy, mosaic and cutting.

The exhibit, which opened yesterday, is part of Capital Museum's efforts to add more innovation and reform to its traditional historical and archaeological focus.

during which Wallace Chan addresses the audience on his ideas in his designs.
"Jewellery design is an art in life and is liked by many," said Yao An, the museum's chief curator. "Capital Museum takes it as a responsibility to make the public on a broader scale to become aware of this sublime art and be influenced by the ideas that run through the design."
Chan donated one of his works, Epiphany of Dragon Cicada, which features a giant cicada made of rubellite, to the museum.
