With the 60-year historical process of the Republic, Lin Gang and Pang Tao left their art footprint. From June 5 to 14, 2010 the "60-year Retrospective Art Exhibition of Lin Gang" and "60-year Retrospective Art Exhibition of Pang Tao" held at NAMOC will present the masterpieces of the artistic couple in the pursuit of their own artistic ideal.
The exhibition will use five halls to display and review the 60-year creation results of the two artists in full and describe the love about life and the sincerity and self-confidence about art of the two artists either in the turbulent years or the period of opening up.
Lin Gang is among the first group of state-funded painters sent to the former Soviet Union. The 6 years of study abroad contributed to his solid painting skills and he demonstrated his outstanding talent in the creation of revolutionary realism after return.
The exhibition works of Lin Gang use a time line to closely link his creation of four periods: the creation of new year paintings in the early 1950s; the exploration in the Soviet Union; the creation of historical paintings after return (including the works cooperated on with Pang Tao) and a series of rough drafts, sketches, and oil paintings; the new series since 1980s. Each part can either be a separate chapter or form a contrast and correlation.
The exhibition describes in three angles: the contrast and link of realistic historical paintings and abstract creation, the transmission of creation of revolutionary realism during studying abroad and after returning to China and the balance and integration of great national narration and individual creation.
Pang Tao, born in a family of artists, was influenced by her parents Pang Xunqin and Qiu Ti and was enlightened on modern art. It laid the basis for her transmission from the long-time realistic style in the period of reform and opening up to the exploration of new form and materials. She got her inspiration from traditional Chinese bronzes, "and created a composition form inspired by one of the most ancient forms of Chinese art to balance the old and new, the tradition and innovation, the abstract and concrete."
At the same time as an outstanding female artist, Pang Tao showed her thoughts and feelings about the 911 event of the United States and the suffering compatriots in the Wenchuan earthquake with her unique and sensitive attention to the society and life in the abstract art form.
The exhibition will allow viewers to learn about the 60-year artistic track and journey of heart through the works and the changes of personal creation style of the two artists. As the senior professors of the China Central Academy of Fine Arts, they have trained a large number of influential Chinese contemporary artists. The exhibition will also first release two volumes of Pang Tao paintings in which the attachment of the first volume - "children learn painting without teaching" is recommended to be read by art-loving parents.
