ARCOmadrid_2011, The International Contemporary Art Fair of Madrid, has agreed on the guidelines for its new project and appointed the gallery representatives sitting on its Organising Committee for its upcoming event, organised by IFEMA, to be held from 16th to 20th February 2011 at the Madrid Exhibition Centre.

Yesterday, Monday 28th June, the Spanish representatives on the Organising Committee — Rebeca Blanchard, Galería Nogueras Blanchard; Guillermo de Osma, Galería Guillermo de Osma; Helga de Alvear, Galería Helga de Alvear; Moisés Pérez de Albeniz, Galería Moisés Pérez de Albeniz; and Soledad Lorenzo, Galería Soledad Lorenzo — together with the Portuguese gallerist Pedro Cera, Galeria Pedro Cera, met with the management of the fair for an opening contact and to approve the new rules, which will be made public in early July, as well as the basic design for the 30th ARCOmadrid. The attendants at the meeting on behalf of IFEMA were Luis Eduardo Cortés, Chairman of IFEMA; Fermín Lucas, Managing Director of IFEMA; and Carlos Urroz, Director of ARCOmadrid. The members representing international galleries — Christopher Grimes, Christopher Grimes Gallery; Rosemarie Schwarzwälder, Galerie Nächst St. Stephan Rosemarie Schwarzwälder; Max Wigram, Max Wigram Gallery; Jill Silverman, Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac; and Luciana Brito, Luciana Brito Galeria — have been informed in detail about the outcome of the meeting.

Guidelines for ARCOmadrid_2011
Following Carlos Urroz’s appointment as the new director of ARCOmadrid, this first meeting with the Spanish gallery representatives was chosen to present the project outlined for the upcoming edition of the art fair in which the number of galleries will be pared down and divided into two exhibition halls.

A new feature of the project is that the successive editions of the Solo Project section will be centred exclusively on Latin America. Another noteworthy introduction is that ARCOmadrid will also be lending a special focus to young galleries from emerging European countries for which it will set aside a separate space at the fair.

As far as the Experts Forum is concerned, the format will change to become a meeting place for museum, art centre and biennial directors, curators and galleries.

ARCOmadrid 30th Anniversary
The International Contemporary Art Fair is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2011. Three decades to its credit working wholeheartedly to promote art, to create heritage and also to support galleries and art collecting.

To commemorate the anniversary, the upcoming event is preparing a number of incentives and actions conceived to reinforce ARCOmadrid’s role and import.
