The notion of the country sustaining one more thoughtful, academic fair seems possible, two or more seems unlikely. The question of which fair will assume this second mantle will begin to be answered next April when Art Beijing and its rival China International Gallery Exposition (CIGE) slug it out once more in Beijing. The one left standing after that bout will then set the pace for Shanghai. How that race will go is yet to be determined.
