Rachel Whiteread's "Ghost, Ghost I," 2008
Established in 1982 by Philip Nelson, Paris’s Nelson-Freeman Gallery represents many prominent international artists, such as German photographer Thomas Ruff, Slovenian painter Mitja Tušek, Swiss painter Pia Fries, and German sculptor Thomas Schütte, among others. The gallery also makes a point of seeking out young talent, such as Anne-Marie Schneider (who has been short-listed this year for the Marcel Duchamp Prize at FIAC), Guillaume Paris, and Helen Mira.
From September 18 to November 13, the gallery is presenting one of its newest recruits: British sculptor Rachel Whiteread, who is already a familiar figure in the museum world, having shown her work in London’s Serpentine Gallery, New York’s Guggenheim Museum, and Naples’s MADRE, in addition to having a concurrent show at Tate Britain.
