Hong Kong, October 7 Nicolas Chow, Sotheby’s Deputy Chairman and International Head of Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art, commented: “Chinese Works of Art took their place on the world auction stage today at Sotheby’s. The standing-room only audience broke into applause numerous times as the company had the privilege of offering extraordinary works of art and porcelain from four remarkable singleowner collections. Among the fine enameled porcelains of the Qianlong period from the Collection of the celebrated dealer and collector J.T.Tai was the supreme highlight of the day - a Magnificent Yellow-Ground Famille-Rose Double-Gourd Vase, Qianlong Mark and Period, which set an Auction Record for Any Chinese Work of Art or Porcelain when it sold for HK$252,660,000. From the same collection, a Fine and Exquisite Famille-Rose Floral Medallion Bottle Vase Enamelled in the Palace Workshops brought the exceptional price of HK$140,660,000.
“With the offering of an Important Private Collection of Qing Historical Works of Art, Sotheby’s set a Record for an Imperial Seal and White Jade sold at auction with the sale of a Massive Imperial White Jade 'Xintian Zhuren' Seal for HK$121,620,000 from the reign of Qianlong.”
