China's top contemporary artists will start a journey late October along the ancient silk road to create works about the historic path.

Fifty artists, including 25 traditional Chinese painters and 25 oil painters, will attend the event, which is organized by the Chinese Artists Association (CAA).

The event is aimed to promote the cultures of the ethnic minorities and portray the region's rich past, Wu Changjiang, executive vice chairman of CAA, said Tuesday at a press conference in Xi'an, capital city of northwest China's Shaanxi Province.

Brochures about the works will be published both in Chinese and English and also would be exhibited in Beijing, Xi'an, Rome, and other cities around the world, Wu said.
