The attention toward Chinese culture is rising in Milan as exhibitions of renowned Chinese artists are opening here during the ongoing Chinese Culture Year in Italy.
"I am pleasantly surprised by the recent inauguration of so many contemporary Chinese art exhibitions," 25-year old Giulia told Xinhua while visiting Chinese artist Liu Bolin's exhibition in Milan, open from Oct. 21 to Nov. 14.
"The interest toward Chinese contemporary artists is rapidly rising, contributing to spread the Chinese culture in Italy," she said adding that she has chosen the Chinese contemporary art as the subject of her university degree thesis.
Liu Bolin's exhibition, named "Hiding in Italy," displays a series of photographs in which the Shandong-born artist himself camouflages his face and body to blend with the backdrop.
"Italy has a millenary history, like China. It takes a long time to fully perceive the beauty of its ancient cities, that are so different one from each other," Liu Bolin said.
"I have come to Italy several times, and each time I feel warm welcome by many Italians who are looking forward to knowing China more in deep," he said, adding that the two countries have much in common in terms of historical treasures and traditions.
"I was personally fascinated by Liu Bolin hiding himself inside some of Milan's most representative places, like La Scala theater' s stage and Duomo cathedral's pinnacles," said Cesare Romiti, president of Italy-China foundation.
He added that, being a universal language, art is an excellent meeting point for a deeper mutual understanding, which is fundamental for strengthening Italy and China's friendship.
A young artist, Carlotta, said that she had never acquainted with the Chinese culture before.
"I think that Italian artists have much to learn from China's traditional virtues," she stressed after listening to Liu Bolin's speech at the presentation.
"I was particularly fascinated by the Chinese artist's humble attitude. Although being a renowned sculptor, painter and photographer, he defined himself as a simple artist who expresses his ideas and feelings through his works," she added.
