"Cangshan Mountain is a painting without ink and Erhai Lake is a song without sound". The poets have said that every inch of soil in Dali is the source of poetry and painting. Baizi Aming of Bai Nationality was born and brought up here. The land here offered him blood and nutrients, and he also loved the land so much that he contributed all his lifetime to it as repayment.

　　Aming was not only a painter. He had many interests and had been involved in many fields, such as investigation on cultures of nationalities, archaeological study and research on cultural relics, preservation of residential buildings and compilation of Dali’s Local Record. During his tenure as the director of Dali Culture Bureau, he did a lot. On the one hand, those were his work duties; on the other hand, it’s because of his special love on hometown. Each monument or stone is the deposition of Dali’s long history and culture. That he enjoyed doing the trivial things is not waste of a painter’s life but cultural operation of higher level. The fact proved that all the work laid a foundation for subsequent development of Dali. Aming was not only a painter, but also a "generalist" in many fields. He has said: "I am not excellent but different".

　　Only after generally understanding the long history, the painter would find his own position and add sense of culture and history to works. 　　Telling Dali’s myths, legends and history of thousand years,

　　Praising kind-hearted and hard-working people of Bai Nationality in Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake,

　　Expressing true feeling and

　　Recording past and present ages.

　　As a painter, he had been engaged in painting for 50 years. In various and confusing modern painting trends, he was puzzled, but he didn’t blindly follow. In his own words, he was not willing to be a follower of trend, nor deviated from source of art. He exploited and developed on the basis of inheriting tradition, and always kept communication with audiences. In process of realizing spirit and essence of tradition in Chinese paintings, he expressed spirit with form and explored on the road to combine Chinese and western styles between similarity and dissimilarity. In his later works, more features were showed, for example, lines are natural and smooth, and colors are random and gorgeous, which was the course of his search. The painting album in front of us only reflected one aspect of the painter, which is only a comma in his artistic life.
