　　Haining is located on the southern tip of the Yangtze River Delta. With Shanghai some 100 km away to the east, Haining in northern Zhejiang Province is washed by the Qiantangjiang River in the south and connects with Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang Province, in the west. Its land area is close to 700 square km. With a total population of 640,000, Haining exercises jurisdiction over eight towns, four street neighborhood committees and three provincial-level economic development areas.

　　Enjoying fame as a famous place in the culturally advanced and economically affluent areas south of the Yangtze River, Haining was developed in education even in the ancient times, so that it had nurtured many celebrities.
