Exhibition Introduction:

"51m²: 16 Emerging Chinese Artists" is the first exhibition of Taikang Space after the lunar New Year.

It is a long-time tradition of Taikang Space to sponsor young and emerging artists. Therefore, Taikang Space launched a brand new art project “51 m²” , it started in October 2009 and ended until January 2011. We have exhibited 16 young artists' works during the last 15 months.

This experimental project is tailor-made for emerging artists, especially those born in the 1980s. Taikang Space hopes to locate a number of good young artists and presents to the public their thinking and concepts, their experiments with new materials and media as well as their positions on various issues in Chinese society and hope that they can be candidates for further research by Taikang Space. Since its launch, the project has been very popular among young artists in China.  

"51m²: 16 Emerging Chinese Artists" was determined to be a part of the whole project in the beginning. Now it appeared in the end of the project. It can be regarded not only as a continuation and complement of the project but also as a start of how Taikang Space keeping focus on the young artists’ art creating, it will present these 16 artists' new works.

At the opening on March 19, we will also publish our new book 51㎡：16 Emerging Chinese Artists（bilingual), It is the final publication of the experimental art project:51㎡curated by Taikang Space. It includes the brilliant works of the 16 artists which are the most creative and dynamic young artists in China today. The works refer to various medium such as device, photography, vedio, etc.. moreover, there will be a collection of interviews between  the 16 artists and the two curators. You may learn about the newest power of China’s contemporary art and different kinds of the interesting points about the atrtists’ creation and life by this publication.
