Zhuang Zedong was a legendary figure in the centennial table tennis circle, since he not only won paramount honor for China by consecutively capturing 3 successive champions of the world men team and world men single, but won 3 successive champions of national men single and those of the internal open tournament of the national team. During the table tennis match held in Japan in 1971, He made friends with Cohen, an American athlete, which was praised by Chairman Mao and Premier Zhou and generated the “table tennis diplomacy” that a big ball can be driven by a small ball. So, Zhuang really played an important part in establishing the Sino——American friendship.
Zhuang has been insisting in practicing calligraphy for over 30 years. He started with the traditional calligraphy, later asked Mr. Fan Zeng for advice, and gradually became learned through diligence and self excitation. Being 68 years old, He suffered a lot from serious illness, but still tirelessly persisted in creation with brawniness and optimism. The year 2011 falls upon the 50th anniversary of the 26th World Table Tennis Match and the 40th anniversary of Sino——American table tennis diplomacy, and Zhuang elaborately selected more than 60 calligraphy works in recent 3 years in the theme of “the motherland is in my heart”, which eulogizes the motherland in the form of calligraphy and advocates the struggling spirit of “fearlessness and creation”.
