Born in 1984, sculptor Jin Nv's first solo exhibition opens at Star Gallery with a sculpture series of mythical centaurs. The subject is female—her relationship to the world and to her body. In her relentless pursuit of the aesthetic, Jin Nv's new series is a product of long-term experimentations in new materials and techniques. Her most recent sculpture series have managed to approach a lustrous realism in her meticulous renderings of skin texture. True to her childhood infatuation with fairy tales, allusions to fairy tales are ever present in all of Jin Nv's work. But at the same time, her work always attempts to contravene the idea of fairy tale itself. This new series reflects an integration of the artist's maturing world view. Her meditation and extraction of the commonalities between woman and horse have informed a unique artistic language. The artist's inner rebellion emerges in her work, without visual violence, just an obstinate resistance.
