Beijing's Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (UCCA) staged a unique artwork exhibition "Art IS Love" on Wednesday, June 1 to celebrate the International Children's Day.
A full house of artworks created by multinational kids aged one to six from Children's House Montessori Kindergarten are delicately framed and on display at the UCCA loft, beckoning visitors to stop, appreciate and admire the fact that children can teach us so much.
The artworks featuring great innocence, vibrancy and fantastic creativity are no less attractive than those created by adult masters.
Parents shouldn't miss out on the chance to take their kids to the one-day exhibition especially for the kids.
Ai Jing, renowned singer-turned-artist, attended the event and interacted a lot with the little artists who also were invited to celebrate the big occasion.
Ai Jing's artworks are immediately recognizable by their simple color palette and often childlike brushstrokes, which can easily be understood by kids. She calls the kids "little masters" and their artworks the "cleanest".
"We are all kids. My preference of colors is similar to that of a kid's. I usually adopt simple and pure colors in my paintings," said the artist.
Every kid has an artistic streak. Young as they are, kids appear much more calm and cool when talking about drawings during arranged interactivities on-site. One participant said she just draws whatever she likes without bothering to think of a meaning.
Another girl who is visiting UCCA with her mother draws a flying bird under the sky, saying she dreams to be as free as a bird, as there are so many classes to attend.
Paula Zhou, the principal of Montessori Kindergarten, spoke highly of the event, "It's so much fun. It's wonderful to see they make their own drawings and share them with everyone. I think you can see so much in children's drawings. They are really enjoying themselves."
As for the theme regarding what more we can do for children, Paula answered, "Let them grow up naturally, let them be independent, let them be free. Children now have so much pressure - they need to do things, and they don't have the freedom to be children. Just give them freedom to be children and grow up naturally, not to be forced."
During the day, the UCCA Art Cinema also presents three short animated films for kids to round up the colorful festival.
