LONDON.- The 20/21 BRITISH ART FAIR, the fair which champions Modern British art, will take place from 14 – 18 September at the Royal College of Art, Kensington Gore, London. It will be opened by the highly acclaimed author and scriptwriter, Anthony Horowitz, at 5pm on the 14th.

Held at the Royal College of Art, arguably ‘the spiritual home of British art’, it is the first big fair of the autumn season. The College is an ideal setting to see work by the great names of the 20th century, many of whom are former students: Bacon, Freud, Frink, Frost, Hepworth, Hockney, Hodgson, Lanyon, Lowry, Moore, Nash, Piper, Riley, Scott, Spencer and Sutherland. Alongside will be a large selection of contemporary work by established names such as Hirst, Emin, Banksy as well as both emerging artists and recent graduates.

‘FORM – MATTER – MATERIAL’

A curated selection of sculpture which highlights British excellence and expands on the theme set earlier this year by the Royal Academy. Exhibitors have been invited to submit pieces of special interest and, with many of the best Modern British dealers exhibiting at the Fair, this promises to be an exciting and informative feature. 99% RETURN!

The popularity of the 20/21 British Art Fair, now in its 24th year, is demonstrated by the fact that all but one exhibitor has re-applied from 2010. The newcomer is James Hyman who was a regular exhibitor for many years. He joins the 55 other leading dealers showing both modern and contemporary British art.

The history of 20th century British art is represented: Vorticists, Campden Town, Scottish Colourists, Bloomsbury Group, surrealism to post-war abstraction, pop art, the YBA’s and more recent graduate work. With paintings, sculpture, prints and works on paper from 1900 to 2011, British art in all its strength and depth, can be enjoyed, under one roof, for five days in September.

MARKET NEWS

Interest in Modern British sales shows no sign of abating with recent sales, including the Evill/Frost Collection attracting record prices. In 2010 there were more sales over £100,000 than at any time in the Fair’s history. However, the price range at the fair is from under £1,000 upwards.
