If you live in a limited space, you need wisdom to live comfortably.
For many years, residents of Beijing's narrow hutongs have used their wisdom to make the best use of their space, often borrowing public space for private use. Kitchens are sometimes built outside of the house, onto the alleyway, and don't be surprised to find that the pillars of some houses are in fact the trunks of growing trees.
Growing up in neighborhoods like this, contemporary artist Song Dong has been able to observe the habits of neighbors borrowing public space since childhood.
Now, the artist displays the results of his observation in an exhibition entitled "Wisdom of the Poor". On display are installations that consist of everyday odds and ends, arranged in ways that reflect the life wisdom of hutong residents.
