Mr Li is known throughout the world as one of China's leading statesmen in the later part of the 20th Century. He graduated from Fudan University in 1952, after which he studied in the Soviet Union . He worked in China First Automobile Works and was one of the pioneers in China’s automobile industry. Later served as Vice Mayor of Tianjin, Deputy Minister and Minister of Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation. In 1992 he became a member of the CPC Central Committee Politburo and also served as the country‘s Vice Premier. In 1997 he became a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Politburo. As an important Party and national leader in the fields of economics, education, culture and technology, he has made great contributions to China's development.

In his retirement, Mr Li Lanqing has been working hard to get better understanding between China and other countries, but now it is through art, music, both as a writer of history and as a maker of calligraphic seals. Li Lanqing's lectures on music and art, his exhibition of seal cuttings, and his lectures on the art of seal cutting have proven very popular with scholars and students both in China and overseas.

The exhibition will introduce the traditional art of Chinese Seal Cutting, Chinese historical civilization and morale of Chinese leader to friends who love Chinese culture by relative activities with oiginal works.

A collection of 200 seals and calligraphy works chosen from 600 works made by Li Lanqing since he began learning the art of sal cutting at the age of 71 will be displayed. In addition, Li Lanqing's works are accompanied by descriptions, essays, poetry, music, photos, paintings and vivid stories .

Talks on the Art of Seal Cutting and Calligraphy , Forum and Appreciation, Hands‐on Experience, Book presentation etc. will be held during the exhibition to attract British people, promote the art of Seal Cutting, and Sino‐Western Cultural Exchange.

Mr Li's seal and calligraphy exhibition has already been exhibited in Singapore, Russia, France, and will be in Indonesia this September.
