  黄剑,湘之才女也。

  长沙“岳麓书院”的大门两侧有一幅自古流传下来的对联,“唯楚有才,于斯为盛”,这八个字高度概括了湖南自古至今人才辈出的状况,尤其是文化艺术方面的人才,可以说是“代有人才出”。

  黄剑从事艺术创作20余年来,创作了大量的具有传承与时代精神的城市雕塑作品。近年来,黄剑的雕塑艺术作品,以新奇的构思、高雅的形象、恢宏的气派、绚丽的色彩屹立在北京、上海、天津、西安、哈尔滨、鄂尔多斯,更远渡重洋来到美国的辛辛那提。她的代表作:北京奥运公园的《明皇贵妃马球图》,上海浦东世纪公园的《龙卷——和而不同》,天津滨海新区泰达广场的《泰达之花》,西安大明宫的《新簪花仕女图》和《采莲图》,楼观台的《唐代三杰》,北京王府井工美大楼的《祖堂》,美国辛辛那提市公共汽车站的《猪天使》等等,都堪称佳品,赢得了世人的青睐和赞誉。

  黄剑善于“撷取万象,裁于一相”,去思考、去创作。她深爱中国传统的民族工艺美术,虚心地向中华优秀传统文化艺术和民间艺术学习,将丰富多彩的传统艺术元素融会贯通,把中国传统艺术和民间艺术的技艺和精华吸收到她的作品中去,使之和现代生活紧密结合,创作出大量具有浓郁民族风格的优秀艺术作品,因之她的作品形成了自己独特的艺术语言和造型风格,显示出豪迈的中国气派和时代精神。雕塑《龙卷——和而不同》以中国传统文化中“和而不同”的理念作为创作基本元素,是2004年上海第十届全国美展中唯一一件永久留展上海的作品;王府井工美大楼的《祖堂》采用百家姓活字版作为设计元素表现中国家族文化;她为西安大明宫创作的《新簪花仕女图》以雕塑的形式再现了唐代周昉的名画《簪花仕女图》;西安楼观台的《唐代三杰》将唐代三才女的神采风貌刻画得惟妙惟肖…………黄剑还善于把中华民族的传统艺术融会贯通。她为美国辛辛那提设计的公交车站《猪天使》和现美国德克萨斯州中央公园内的《丽人行》都借鉴了中国传统民间剪纸艺术;她为2011年深圳大运会创作的《铭记•大运》灵感来源于中国传统的篆刻艺术。

  她也以自己的才华为2008年奥运会增添了光彩,她为北京创作了《明皇贵妃马球图》、《走兽》、《奥运之峰》等雕塑作品。为天津海河的奥运迎宾大桥----大光明桥作了整体艺术造型设计和雕塑的设计创作。其中群雕《明皇贵妃马球图》再现了唐明皇和众妃嫔策马击球的情景,是奥林匹克公园唯一一组大型群雕《奥运马球图》永久性雕塑,该作品荣获2008年中国环境艺术奖。

  “工欲善其事,必先利其器” 。对雕塑艺术的倾心热爱,使她对雕塑材料进行了不懈地探索和钻研,她发明了一种新型的金属雕塑材料——七彩金,其色彩璀璨夺目,流光溢彩,被国际雕塑界誉为极具表现力和视觉震撼力的雕塑材料。他用这种独具一格的材料塑造了《泰达之花》(天津)七彩的花瓣、《丁香仙子》(哈尔滨)飘逸的霓裳、《玫瑰园》(鄂尔多斯)中浪漫的玫瑰,获得了富有感召力的艺术效果。

  黄剑新颖的创作思想和丰硕的成果,令我欣慰,更令我佩服,也得到国内外雕塑界的一致认可。她连续荣获第一届、第二届“中国环境艺术奖”的多个奖项,是中国环境艺术领域获奖最多的艺术家。

  黄剑有着强烈的爱国主义思想和民族自豪感,她为中国的文化和艺术感到骄傲,因此努力地将中国民族艺术风格介绍到世界上其他国家。从1989年在北京首次举办个人艺术展至今,黄剑已在世界各地举办数次展览。2006年,在美国辛辛那提举办的国际雕塑年会暨美国《雕塑》杂志创办20周年纪念活动中,主办方特为黄剑做了《东方之声——黄剑公共艺术作品展》,这是在此期间唯一的雕塑专展。来自世界各地的1000多位知名雕塑家纷纷到场参观,对其作品给予了广泛的好评。国际雕塑协会会长、美国《雕塑》杂志主编格伦•哈珀先生对黄剑的雕塑给予了很高的评价,并委派《雕塑》杂志记者、雕塑家马克先生专程来华对黄剑的公共雕塑艺术作品进行实地采访。

  去年玉树地震后,黄剑在短短40余天的时间里用300吨汉白玉创作了大型雕塑《玉树花开》,捐赠给玉树灾区,以艺术鼓舞人心,气度恢宏,寓意深远,体现了黄剑对国家、对民族、对灾区的大爱豪情。

  今年,黄剑还创作了一座诗意盎然雕塑——《凤凰涅槃》。美丽的凤凰化身为仙女,在仙境的湖面轻吹长笛。仙乐飘缈之中,百荷盛开,百鸟和鸣,白鹤排云直上,白鸽停驻于长笛。此情此景,倒映在宁静如镜的湖水里,以神话的形式展示了“百鸟朝凤”传说,寓意人与自然和谐共融,祥和宁静的生态。作品以“凤凰涅槃”之意喻***是在战火中诞生的和谐和平的美的化身,以“百鸟朝凤”之意喻***受到各国的信赖和拥戴。“仙境”则是全世界人民共同憧憬的和平美好的未来世界。

  黄剑的雕塑艺术品是诗,是凝固而立体的诗,她的作品就像唐代大诗人刘禹锡的诗句:“晴空一鹤排云上,便引诗情到碧霄”。

  Leading My Poetic Passions into Blue Sky

  Huang Jian is a talented female artist from Hunan Province.

  On both sides of the main gate of Yuelu Academy of Classical Learning in Changsha is a couplet handed down through generations, which says that “The Kingdom of Chu is unique home to talents and there are more talents in Yuelu Academy than anywhere else.” The couplet highly epitomizes that generations of talents have come out in succession in Hunan from the ancient times, especially the art and culture talents. We may say that large numbers of talents come forth through all the generations.

  Huang Jian has been engaged in the artistic practices for over twenty years and created a large number of urban sculptures which reflect the traditional and contemporary spirit. For recent years, her commissioned sculptures have been installed in Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Xi’an, Harbin, Erdos and even in the city of Cincinnati of the United States due to her novel ideas, elegant forms, grand styles and gorgeous colors. Her representative projects include The Emperor Minghuang and Concubine in a Polo Game in Beijing Olympics Park, Harmony in Difference in Shanghai Pudong Century Park, Flowers of TAIDA on the TAIDA Square in New Binghai District of Tianjin, the Tang Beauties and Picking Lotus Flowers in Grand Ming Palace of Xi’an, the Three Famous Celebrities of the Tang Dynasty in Louguan Pavilion, the Ancestors’ Hall in Wangfujing Arts and Crafts Mansion in Beijing and the Pig Angel by a bus-stop in Cincinnati of the United States. All the sculptures have been praised as masterpieces and received high regards from all walks of life.

  Huang Jian is good at picking the best from all the manifestations of the nature. She ponders over them while creating her artworks. She has a deep love for the traditional Chinese folk arts and crafts and learns the traditional Chinese culture, arts and folk arts with an open mind. She has combined a wealth of artistic elements of the Chinese traditions with her creations and applied the quintessence of the traditional Chinese arts and the unique techniques of folk arts to her artworks. As a result, she has created a great many of outstanding sculpture in a strong Chinese style by merging the traditional arts and the contemporary art language into an organic whole, demonstrating the spirit of our times. With the philosophical concept of “harmony in difference” of the traditional Chinese culture as its basic conception, her sculpture, Harmony in Difference, is the only permanently exhibited sculpture after the tenth National Fine Arts Exhibition in Shanghai in 2004. The Ancestors’ Hall in Wangfujing Arts and Crafts Mansion is a representation of the Chinese family culture by taking the movable type of the Chinese surnames as design elements. In her the Tang Beauties in Grand Ming Palace of Xi’an, she gave a new and vivid description of the scene in the famous painting by Zhou Fang, a well-known painter of the Tang Dynasty, in a sculptural form. In the Louguan Pavilion of Xi’an, she gives a lifelike description of the three famous female talents of the Tang Dynasty in her Three Famous Celebrities of the Tang Dynasty. In the same sense, Huang Jian is good at achieving mastery through a comprehensive study of the traditional Chinese arts. By taking the traditional Chinese folk papercutting, she created the Pig Angel for the bus-stops in Cincinnati and the Beauties in the Central Park in Texas of the United States. In 2011, Eternal Memories of Universiade that she created for the Shenzhen Universiade was inspired by the traditional art of Chinese papercutting and seal carving.

  She contributed her artistic efforts to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games as well because she created The Emperor Minghuang and Concubine in a Polo Game, Racing Animals and Peak of Olympic Games for the Beijing event. She also created the integrated design and sculptures for the Great Brightness (Daguangming) Bridge crossing over the Hai River in Tianjin. Among her public sculpture, The Emperor Minghuang and Concubine in a Polo Game is a representation of the Emperor Xuanzong playing the polo with his concubines. It is the only permanently installed sculpture in the central part of the Olympic Games Park. The sculpture was awarded the 2008 Environmental Artworks Award of China.

  As it says, “a workman must sharpen his tools if he desires to do his work well.” Due to her great efforts to the creations of sculpture, he has made unremitting explorations into all the possible materials in her sculpting work. She invented a new metal material for her sculpture, i.e. multi-colored gold in gorgeous colors, which has been universally acclaimed as an ideal material with extraordinarily expressive and visual shocks. By taking full advantage of such an excellent material, she created the petals of the Flowers of TAIDA in Tianjin, Fairy Lilac in Harbin and Rose Garden in Erdos in a romantic style, achieving an inspiring effect.

  I have a deep admiration for the novelty of her artistic conceptions and great achievements which have been widely accepted by the sculpture fields both at home and abroad. She has been awarded many prizes including China Environmental Art Prize and she has received the most awards in the environmental art in China.

  Huang Jian has a strong sense of patriotism and pride. She is proud of the Chinese culture and art so that she has tried all her efforts to introduced the various styles of Chinese arts to the other countries. Since her first solo exhibition in Beijing in 1989, Huang Jian has held many exhibitions around the world. In 2006 when the International Sculpture Conference and the celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Sculpture magazine were held in Cincinnati of the United States, the organizers sponsored a special exhibition, Oriental Voice: Public Artworks by Huang Jian, for her. It was the only sculpture exhibition during the event. Over 1,000 sculptors from around the world were present at the exhibition and gave high regards about her sculptures. Mr. Glenn Harper, president of International Sculpture Association and chief editor of the Sculpture magazine, spoke highly of all the sculptures by Huang Jian and assigned his reporter, Mr. Mark, a special-purpose trip to China and make an on-site interview with Huang Jian about her public sculpture.

  After the Yushu earthquake last year, Huang Jian spent only forty days on her grand sculpture, Blooming Yushu, by using 300 tons of marble. She donated the sculpture to the devastated region of Yushu and hoped to encouraged the local people by expressing her love towards her motherland, her fellow countrymen and the earthquake-stricken area in an artistic way.

  This year, Hua Jian created a poetic and dynamic sculpture, Rebirth of Phoenix, for the United Nations. The beautiful phoenix becomes a fairy who plays the flute over the Fairy Lake. The lotus flowers are blooming and the birds are singing in the fairy land. The cranes fly in the blue sky and the white pigeons listen to the magical music on the flute. The tranquil lake mirrors the silhouettes of the birds same as all birds paying homage to the phoenix in the legendary story, implying that there is a peace and harmony between the nature and the human beings. The title of the sculpture, Rebirth of Phoenix, indicates that the United States was born out of the war and has already become the symbol of peace and harmony. The description of “all birds paying homage to the phoenix” symbolizes the trust in the United States by all the nations. The fairy land represents the future world of peace and prosperity that all the people from around the world have been expecting.

  In my opinion, the sculptures by Huang Jian are poems in a solid and vertical form. Her artworks may be described with two sentences extracted from Liu Yuxi, one of the greatest poets from the Tang Dynasty. “In sunny heaven one crane catches clouds in its wings and leads my poetic passions into blue sky.”

  大家评说“明皇贵妃马球图”

  这组雕塑我非常喜欢,它塑造了历史上的重要人物,反映了传统文化的特点,每个雕塑动作、神态都很有个性,显得很丰富具有变化,也很有艺术性,它把中国文化的内涵充分地反映出来了,在塑造上富有唐代的特点,女性人物形象优美、装饰华丽,男性很有骑马的奔式,马形态各异,也很生动,局部运用一点金色,也给人物增加了光彩。马尾巴扎起,使马更适合运动,跑的更快,具有唐马特点。

  这组雕塑做得很有深度,继承了传统文化的优势。

  雕塑家具有一定的艺术修养,对历史和传统也有一定研究,同时有较好的造型功力。

  当然这组雕塑如果能放在一个更加开阔、旷野的空间环境中,会更加体现唐代的风格和内涵。

  这应该说是一个非常成功的群塑,这也是一个很重大的创作题材,中国唐代就有这种规模的体育运动,这也是一个文化精神的传承和继续。

  这组雕塑能在短时间里,组织的很好,人物关系协调、很生动,有深度的表现了打马球的主题,这些动态中的人物、马都很难表现,场面也很大,我对作品的成功完成表示祝贺。

  我很尊重这几位青年雕塑家,他们对国家奥运作出了贡献,当然,这其中也多次得到了王克庆等老一辈雕塑家的指导和鼓励,因为它是奥运会,所以它很重要。

  这个题材完成不容易,不能说成功我们就不从中提出意见,这个题材应该是一个绝对重大的题材,它的主题应该要集中、完整再现打马球的场面,雕塑不应该被单个、支解的分割开,安放在建筑环境中,更不应该是建筑环境中的点缀物,而应当自身形成一个壮观的运动场景。

  这个题材的成功完成,说明雕塑艺术的重要性,和建筑同样重要,全世界著名的建筑师都为中国奥运作贡献,雕塑家同样也在为奥运作出自己的贡献。

  这组雕塑内容和环境比较好的结合在一起,我很敬佩、赞赏黄剑的这个创作团队在短时间里创作出这组群雕,这组雕塑在创作、制作上都需要花费很大的精力,在国外这是不大可能在很短的时间里实现的,只有中国的雕塑家才能做到,这也是中国的特色。

  这组人物、马的塑造也很飘逸、生动,给人有历史的跨越、传统文化的联想,也是对中国文化的传播。

  有一点遗憾就是这组群塑与环境组合上不尽理想之处是,这种硬地辅装不太适合这种运动,这个要放在草地上运动感会更强。

  铸造工艺方面因为时间的关系,还没有达到精品雕塑的要求。

  今后如果能在时间上、经费上给予雕塑家更多宽松,我们雕塑家能做出更多的精品。

  总的来说,奥运公园有这样一组的雕塑,是一个非常好的事情。它增加了建筑、环境和空间的生命力和艺术感染力,它能给中外的游人留下一种中国文化印象。

  People said: “Emperor Xuanzong and Yang Guifei Playing Polo”

  I very like this group of sculptures. It has sculpted the important figures in the history, and has reflected the characteristics of traditional culture. The actions and manners of every sculpture have individuality, which are rich and changeful, also has stronger artistry, and it has fully reflected the connotation of Chinese culture, and has rich characteristics of Tang Dynasty in the mold. The image of woman character is exquisite, foofaraw; the man has running trend of riding horse; the horses have dissimilar shapes, and very vivid. The parts use the golden color, which also increases the brilliance for the characters. The horse's tail is bundled, which it is more suitable for a horse to move, running faster, and has characteristics of horse in Tang Dynasty. This group of sculptures is deep, and has inherited the superiority of traditional culture.

  The sculptors have certain artistic culture, and also have some researches to the history and the tradition, simultaneously they have the good modeling skill.

  Certainly, if this group of sculptures can be placed a more open and clear environment, it will even more manifest the style and the connotation of Tang Dynasty.

  Yuan Yunfu: (Famous artist, Professor of the Academy of Fine Arts in Tsing Hua University)

  It should say that this is a very successful sculpture group, this is also a significant creation theme; there has been this scale of sports in Tang Dynasty of China, and this is also a inheritance and continuation of the cultural spirit.

  This group of sculpture can be organized well in a short time, the character relationship is very harmonious, and is very vivid, and they have deeply represented the subject of playing the polo. It is very difficult to represent dynamic characters and horses, and the scene is also very big, so I offer my congratulations on the successful completion of the work.

  I respect these young sculptors very much. They have made the contributions to the Olympic Games of China. Certainly, older generation of sculptors Wang Keqing etc. also gave so much instructions and encouragements, it is very important because it is the Olympic Games. It is not easy to complete this theme; it cannot say that we cannot make remarks because it is successful.

  This theme should be an absolute significant theme, and its subject should integrally reproduce reappearance the scene of playing the polo. The sculptures should not be divided by the individual and the dismemberment to place in the architectural environment, it should not be the embellishments in the architectural environment even more, but it should form a spectacular sports scene itself.

  This theme's successful completion indicated that the statuary art is as important as the architecture. The renowned architects over the world all make the contribution to the Olympic Games of China, and the sculptors also make their contributions for the Olympic Games.

  This group of sculptures is well integrated into the environment. I admire and appreciate Huang Jian’s this creation team can create this group of sculptures in a short time.

  The group of sculptures needs to take their big energy in the creation and execution, it is hardly possible to realize in overseas in a very short time, only Chinese sculptors can achieve it, so this is also Chinese characteristics. This group of character and horse sculptures is also very elegant and vivid, they can bring us the association which goes beyond the history and the traditional culture, and is also the communication of Chinese culture.

  It is a pity this group of sculptures is not ideal combination with the environment. This kind of solid ground paving is not suitable for this kind of sport, and the kinaesthesia is able to be stronger if this is placed on the grassland. The casting technique does not achieve the requirement of high-quality sculptures because of short time.

  For the future, if more time and funds can be given the sculptors, our sculptors can make more high-quality goods. Generally speaking, it is a very good matter for the Olympic Park to have this group of sculptures. It has increased the vitality and the artistic power of architecture, environment and space, and it can leave a kind of impression of Chinese culture upon Chinese and foreign tourists. 便引诗情到碧霄 刘恪山

  Leading My Poetic Passions into Blue Sky

  Huang Jian is a talented female artist from Hunan Province.

  On both sides of the main gate of Yuelu Academy of Classical Learning in Changsha is a couplet handed down through generations, which says that “The Kingdom of Chu is unique home to talents and there are more talents in Yuelu Academy than anywhere else.” The couplet highly epitomizes that generations of talents have come out in succession in Hunan from the ancient times, especially the art and culture talents. We may say that large numbers of talents come forth through all the generations.

  Huang Jian has been engaged in the artistic practices for over twenty years and created a large number of urban sculptures which reflect the traditional and contemporary spirit. For recent years, her commissioned sculptures have been installed in Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Xi’an, Harbin, Erdos and even in the city of Cincinnati of the United States due to her novel ideas, elegant forms, grand styles and gorgeous colors. Her representative projects include The Emperor Minghuang and Concubine in a Polo Game in Beijing Olympics Park, Harmony in Difference in Shanghai Pudong Century Park, Flowers of TAIDA on the TAIDA Square in New Binghai District of Tianjin, the Tang Beauties and Picking Lotus Flowers in Grand Ming Palace of Xi’an, the Three Famous Celebrities of the Tang Dynasty in Louguan Pavilion, the Ancestors’ Hall in Wangfujing Arts and Crafts Mansion in Beijing and the Pig Angel by a bus-stop in Cincinnati of the United States. All the sculptures have been praised as masterpieces and received high regards from all walks of life.

  Huang Jian is good at picking the best from all the manifestations of the nature. She ponders over them while creating her artworks. She has a deep love for the traditional Chinese folk arts and crafts and learns the traditional Chinese culture, arts and folk arts with an open mind. She has combined a wealth of artistic elements of the Chinese traditions with her creations and applied the quintessence of the traditional Chinese arts and the unique techniques of folk arts to her artworks. As a result, she has created a great many of outstanding sculpture in a strong Chinese style by merging the traditional arts and the contemporary art language into an organic whole, demonstrating the spirit of our times. With the philosophical concept of “harmony in difference” of the traditional Chinese culture as its basic conception, her sculpture, Harmony in Difference, is the only permanently exhibited sculpture after the tenth National Fine Arts Exhibition in Shanghai in 2004. The Ancestors’ Hall in Wangfujing Arts and Crafts Mansion is a representation of the Chinese family culture by taking the movable type of the Chinese surnames as design elements. In her the Tang Beauties in Grand Ming Palace of Xi’an, she gave a new and vivid description of the scene in the famous painting by Zhou Fang, a well-known painter of the Tang Dynasty, in a sculptural form. In the Louguan Pavilion of Xi’an, she gives a lifelike description of the three famous female talents of the Tang Dynasty in her Three Famous Celebrities of the Tang Dynasty. In the same sense, Huang Jian is good at achieving mastery through a comprehensive study of the traditional Chinese arts. By taking the traditional Chinese folk papercutting, she created the Pig Angel for the bus-stops in Cincinnati and the Beauties in the Central Park in Texas of the United States. In 2011, Eternal Memories of Universiade that she created for the Shenzhen Universiade was inspired by the traditional art of Chinese papercutting and seal carving.

  She contributed her artistic efforts to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games as well because she created The Emperor Minghuang and Concubine in a Polo Game, Racing Animals and Peak of Olympic Games for the Beijing event. She also created the integrated design and sculptures for the Great Brightness (Daguangming) Bridge crossing over the Hai River in Tianjin. Among her public sculpture, The Emperor Minghuang and Concubine in a Polo Game is a representation of the Emperor Xuanzong playing the polo with his concubines. It is the only permanently installed sculpture in the central part of the Olympic Games Park. The sculpture was awarded the 2008 Environmental Artworks Award of China.

  As it says, “a workman must sharpen his tools if he desires to do his work well.” Due to her great efforts to the creations of sculpture, he has made unremitting explorations into all the possible materials in her sculpting work. She invented a new metal material for her sculpture, i.e. multi-colored gold in gorgeous colors, which has been universally acclaimed as an ideal material with extraordinarily expressive and visual shocks. By taking full advantage of such an excellent material, she created the petals of the Flowers of TAIDA in Tianjin, Fairy Lilac in Harbin and Rose Garden in Erdos in a romantic style, achieving an inspiring effect.

  I have a deep admiration for the novelty of her artistic conceptions and great achievements which have been widely accepted by the sculpture fields both at home and abroad. She has been awarded many prizes including China Environmental Art Prize and she has received the most awards in the environmental art in China.

  Huang Jian has a strong sense of patriotism and pride. She is proud of the Chinese culture and art so that she has tried all her efforts to introduced the various styles of Chinese arts to the other countries. Since her first solo exhibition in Beijing in 1989, Huang Jian has held many exhibitions around the world. In 2006 when the International Sculpture Conference and the celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Sculpture magazine were held in Cincinnati of the United States, the organizers sponsored a special exhibition, Oriental Voice: Public Artworks by Huang Jian, for her. It was the only sculpture exhibition during the event. Over 1,000 sculptors from around the world were present at the exhibition and gave high regards about her sculptures. Mr. Glenn Harper, president of International Sculpture Association and chief editor of the Sculpture magazine, spoke highly of all the sculptures by Huang Jian and assigned his reporter, Mr. Mark, a special-purpose trip to China and make an on-site interview with Huang Jian about her public sculpture.

  After the Yushu earthquake last year, Huang Jian spent only forty days on her grand sculpture, Blooming Yushu, by using 300 tons of marble. She donated the sculpture to the devastated region of Yushu and hoped to encouraged the local people by expressing her love towards her motherland, her fellow countrymen and the earthquake-stricken area in an artistic way.

  This year, Hua Jian created a poetic and dynamic sculpture, Rebirth of Phoenix, for the United Nations. The beautiful phoenix becomes a fairy who plays the flute over the Fairy Lake. The lotus flowers are blooming and the birds are singing in the fairy land. The cranes fly in the blue sky and the white pigeons listen to the magical music on the flute. The tranquil lake mirrors the silhouettes of the birds same as all birds paying homage to the phoenix in the legendary story, implying that there is a peace and harmony between the nature and the human beings. The title of the sculpture, Rebirth of Phoenix, indicates that the United States was born out of the war and has already become the symbol of peace and harmony. The description of “all birds paying homage to the phoenix” symbolizes the trust in the United States by all the nations. The fairy land represents the future world of peace and prosperity that all the people from around the world have been expecting.

  In my opinion, the sculptures by Huang Jian are poems in a solid and vertical form. Her artworks may be described with two sentences extracted from Liu Yuxi, one of the greatest poets from the Tang Dynasty. “In sunny heaven one crane catches clouds in its wings and leads my poetic passions into blue sky.”

  这组雕塑我非常喜欢,它塑造了历史上的重要人物,反映了传统文化的特点,每个雕塑动作、神态都很有个性,显得很丰富具有变化,也很有艺术性,它把中国文化的内涵充分地反映出来了,在塑造上富有唐代的特点,女性人物形象优美、装饰华丽,男性很有骑马的奔式,马形态各异,也很生动,局部运用一点金色,也给人物增加了光彩。马尾巴扎起,使马更适合运动,跑的更快,具有唐马特点。

  这组雕塑做得很有深度,继承了传统文化的优势。

  雕塑家具有一定的艺术修养,对历史和传统也有一定研究,同时有较好的造型功力。

  当然这组雕塑如果能放在一个更加开阔、旷野的空间环境中,会更加体现唐代的风格和内涵。

  这应该说是一个非常成功的群塑,这也是一个很重大的创作题材,中国唐代就有这种规模的体育运动,这也是一个文化精神的传承和继续。

  这组雕塑能在短时间里,组织的很好,人物关系协调、很生动,有深度的表现了打马球的主题,这些动态中的人物、马都很难表现,场面也很大,我对作品的成功完成表示祝贺。

  我很尊重这几位青年雕塑家,他们对国家奥运作出了贡献,当然,这其中也多次得到了王克庆等老一辈雕塑家的指导和鼓励,因为它是奥运会,所以它很重要。

  这个题材完成不容易,不能说成功我们就不从中提出意见,这个题材应该是一个绝对重大的题材,它的主题应该要集中、完整再现打马球的场面,雕塑不应该被单个、支解的分割开,安放在建筑环境中,更不应该是建筑环境中的点缀物,而应当自身形成一个壮观的运动场景。

  这个题材的成功完成,说明雕塑艺术的重要性,和建筑同样重要,全世界著名的建筑师都为中国奥运作贡献,雕塑家同样也在为奥运作出自己的贡献。

  这组雕塑内容和环境比较好的结合在一起,我很敬佩、赞赏黄剑的这个创作团队在短时间里创作出这组群雕,这组雕塑在创作、制作上都需要花费很大的精力,在国外这是不大可能在很短的时间里实现的,只有中国的雕塑家才能做到,这也是中国的特色。

  这组人物、马的塑造也很飘逸、生动,给人有历史的跨越、传统文化的联想,也是对中国文化的传播。

  有一点遗憾就是这组群塑与环境组合上不尽理想之处是,这种硬地辅装不太适合这种运动,这个要放在草地上运动感会更强。

  铸造工艺方面因为时间的关系,还没有达到精品雕塑的要求。

  今后如果能在时间上、经费上给予雕塑家更多宽松,我们雕塑家能做出更多的精品。

  总的来说,奥运公园有这样一组的雕塑,是一个非常好的事情。它增加了建筑、环境和空间的生命力和艺术感染力,它能给中外的游人留下一种中国文化印象。

  People said: “Emperor Xuanzong and Yang Guifei Playing Polo”

  I very like this group of sculptures. It has sculpted the important figures in the history, and has reflected the characteristics of traditional culture. The actions and manners of every sculpture have individuality, which are rich and changeful, also has stronger artistry, and it has fully reflected the connotation of Chinese culture, and has rich characteristics of Tang Dynasty in the mold. The image of woman character is exquisite, foofaraw; the man has running trend of riding horse; the horses have dissimilar shapes, and very vivid. The parts use the golden color, which also increases the brilliance for the characters. The horse's tail is bundled, which it is more suitable for a horse to move, running faster, and has characteristics of horse in Tang Dynasty. This group of sculptures is deep, and has inherited the superiority of traditional culture.

  The sculptors have certain artistic culture, and also have some researches to the history and the tradition, simultaneously they have the good modeling skill.

  Certainly, if this group of sculptures can be placed a more open and clear environment, it will even more manifest the style and the connotation of Tang Dynasty.

  Yuan Yunfu: (Famous artist, Professor of the Academy of Fine Arts in Tsing Hua University)

  It should say that this is a very successful sculpture group, this is also a significant creation theme; there has been this scale of sports in Tang Dynasty of China, and this is also a inheritance and continuation of the cultural spirit.

  This group of sculpture can be organized well in a short time, the character relationship is very harmonious, and is very vivid, and they have deeply represented the subject of playing the polo. It is very difficult to represent dynamic characters and horses, and the scene is also very big, so I offer my congratulations on the successful completion of the work.

  I respect these young sculptors very much. They have made the contributions to the Olympic Games of China. Certainly, older generation of sculptors Wang Keqing etc. also gave so much instructions and encouragements, it is very important because it is the Olympic Games. It is not easy to complete this theme; it cannot say that we cannot make remarks because it is successful.

  This theme should be an absolute significant theme, and its subject should integrally reproduce reappearance the scene of playing the polo. The sculptures should not be divided by the individual and the dismemberment to place in the architectural environment, it should not be the embellishments in the architectural environment even more, but it should form a spectacular sports scene itself.

  This theme's successful completion indicated that the statuary art is as important as the architecture. The renowned architects over the world all make the contribution to the Olympic Games of China, and the sculptors also make their contributions for the Olympic Games.

  This group of sculptures is well integrated into the environment. I admire and appreciate Huang Jian’s this creation team can create this group of sculptures in a short time.

  The group of sculptures needs to take their big energy in the creation and execution, it is hardly possible to realize in overseas in a very short time, only Chinese sculptors can achieve it, so this is also Chinese characteristics. This group of character and horse sculptures is also very elegant and vivid, they can bring us the association which goes beyond the history and the traditional culture, and is also the communication of Chinese culture.

  It is a pity this group of sculptures is not ideal combination with the environment. This kind of solid ground paving is not suitable for this kind of sport, and the kinaesthesia is able to be stronger if this is placed on the grassland. The casting technique does not achieve the requirement of high-quality sculptures because of short time.

  For the future, if more time and funds can be given the sculptors, our sculptors can make more high-quality goods. Generally speaking, it is a very good matter for the Olympic Park to have this group of sculptures. It has increased the vitality and the artistic power of architecture, environment and space, and it can leave a kind of impression of Chinese culture upon Chinese and foreign tourists.
