Ten of China’s 2,000-year old Terracotta Warriors will come to New York on April 27 and go on display at the Discovery Times Square exhibition space, event organizers announced today.
In addition to the life-sized, 600-pound clay soldiers, the exhibition will include more than 200 other artifacts dating as far back as 221 BCE, including the world premiere of a set of gates from an ancient Han burial chamber. First discovered in 1974, thousands of the warriors were intended to protect China’s First Emperor, Qin Shihuangdi, in his afterlife.
The exhibition will be presented in partnership with New York’s China Institute as well as the Shaanxi Provincial Cultural Relics Bureau and the Shaanxi Provincial Museum Association.
Portions of the Terracotta Warriors collection have been on tour at locations inlcuding London and Washington D.C.
