Mott comes to the Phillips from Accordia Global Health Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming the state of health in Africa.

Dorothy Kosinski, director of The Phillips Collection, announces the appointment of Dale Mott as the museum’s new Director of Development. Mott brings to the museum more than 18 years of experience in fundraising and a vital understanding of D.C.’s cultural and nonprofit landscape. He joins the Phillips on August 6, 2012.

“Dale has a deep knowledge of fundraising and stewarding donors with a track record of great success. I am thrilled to find such a seasoned and enthusiastic leader for our development efforts at this critical moment in the Phillips’s history,” says Kosinski. “Our endowment has grown substantially, doubling in the last four years, but persistent fiscal challenges faced by the museum make Dale a welcome and crucial addition to staff leadership.”

Mott comes to the Phillips from Accordia Global Health Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming the state of health in Africa. He was responsible for all fundraising initiatives, increasing contributed revenue by 30% in 2011. During his tenure as National Director for CARE—a leader in global poverty reduction—he developed and executed programs that successfully raised $8 million in 10 months. His nearly two decades of experience in the development field include coordination of national donor events, international donor trips, major corporate sponsorships, and institutional campaign development and implementation. Through previous positions at Penumbra Theatre Company in St. Paul, Minn., the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit, Mich., and theSmithsonian National Museum of African Art in Washington, D.C., Mott has built a strong background in the visual arts and cultural institutions.

“I am eager to return professionally to the arts arena, which has always been my great passion,” says Mott. “Especially exciting is the opportunity to join the ranks of such an internationally significant and culturally rich institution as The Phillips Collection.”

Mott fondly remembers his first encounter with the Phillips: “I wandered into the museum one day and was immediately transfixed by Georgia O’Keeffe’s Red Hills, Lake George. The intense reds, yellows, and blues of the painting and the intimacy of the Phillips took me immediately home to Louisiana. I’ll never forget that moment.”

Mott, a native of Lake Charles, La., completed graduate work at the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute for Public Affairs, University of Minnesota, after earning a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with High Honors from Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss. He is active in the Association of Fundraising Professionals and is a member of the Human Rights Campaign Federal Club.
