Jeremy Hunt, who has been the UK culture secretary since the coalition government came to power in May 2010 (having been the shadow secretary in opposition previously) has been promoted to health secretary in David Cameron's cabinet reshuffle. Hunt is to be replaced by Maria Miller who has been under-secretary of state and minister for disabled people at the Department for Work and Pensions. Miller is to split her time between two briefs – she is also to become minister for women and equalities. Hunt has had his share of controversy, pushing through a 30 percent cut in arts spending and serious questions surrounding his handling of News International's proposed takeover of BSkyB.
