Nicholas Cullinan has been hired as a curator in the department of modern and contemporary art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and will come on staff in the spring. He is currently curator of international modern art at Tate Modern in London. At the Met, he will report to Sheena Wagstaff, who was appointed chairman of the modern and contemporary department in January and was previously his boss at Tate Modern.

Before joining Tate Modern in 2007, Cullinan worked at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and was the Hilla Rebay International Fellow at the Guggenheim in New York, Bilbao, and Venice. At Tate Modern, Cullinan was previously assistant curator (2007-09). During his tenure, he traveled extensively in Eastern Europe and Russia, acquiring new works for the collection.

Cullinan's past exhibitions include "Duchamp, Man Ray, Picabia" (2008), "Cy Twombly: Cycles and Seasons" (2008), and "Edvard Munch: The Modern Eye" (2012). Cullinan has also curated independently.

Cullinan will also be senior research fellow at the Drawing Institute of the Morgan Library and Museum, New York, beginning January 2013.
