Elisabeth Sussman Wins Bard Curatorial Award

Whitney Museum curator Elisabeth Sussman will win the 2013 Audrey Irmas Award for Curatorial Excellence, presented by the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College. The prize, which includes $25,000 and an award designed by artist Lawrence Weiner, will be awarded Apr. 3, 2013 in New York.
Among Sussman's recent projects are cocurating the 2012 Whitney Biennial with Jay Sanders, and the show "Paul Thek: Diver, A Retrospective," which finished its tour this year at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles and won the International Association of Art Critics' award for best monographic show in New York in 2011.
Also among her award-winning shows is "Gordon Matta-Clark: ‘You Are the Measure,'" which won AICA's award for best New York monographic show in 2007, and an Eva Hesse retrospective which won best monographic show outside of New York in 2001 and '02. She co-organized the Hesse show with Renate Petzinger of the Museum Wiesbaden in Germany.
Sussman was previously interim director and deputy director of programs at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston, and was a fellow of the Rockefeller Foundation and has taught at MIT and Tufts University.
